A current undergraduate student at the University of Delaware studying vocal performance, American bass Nolan Smith is an aspiring young opera singer. Nolan grew up in music in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, where he sang in the Wilmington Children's Chorus, the Delaware Music Educator's Association All-State choir, and American Music Abroad. This past spring, during his first year at the University of Delaware, Nolan performed in his first opera as Private Willis in Gilbert & Sullivan's "Iolanthe." Very soon after that, Nolan traveled to Germany with the Delaware Choral Scholars to compete at the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf and as a part of the International Choral Biennale in Aachen. Most recently, Nolan was a part of the Austrian American Mozart Academy, where he performed the roles of Colas in Mozart's "Bastien und Bastienne," Buffo in "Der Schauspieldirktor," and Sarastro and Sprecher/3rd slave in "Die Zauberflöte." Nolan now embarks on his sophomore year, eager to expand his repertoire and increase his performance experience.
